I saw Maryland Representative Roscoe Barlett on C-SPAN the other day, and he seemed to have made a statement that strongly implied that nuclear fusion may never be perfected. And he's not the only one. I've heard this pessimism about nuclear fusion a lot lately. And that upsets me to no end. It also confirms my belief that we live in an age of spectacular mediocrity. What happened to the days when an inventor would decide to invent something, and the invention actually comes into being? If Thomas Edison had the same attitude that most folks today have, he probably wouldn't have invented anything. Or if Thomas Edison were alive today he might decide to go into nuclear fusion reserach and actually succeed at making it work. But the reality is that in today's modern dystopia, spectacular mediacrity is preferable to problem-solving activities. Welcome to the new Dark Age.
